Oils for the Lungs

Oils for the Lungs

The lungs are paired organs located on either side of the heart. The lungs function to exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide (breathing). Oxygen passes into the blood by inhaling, and exhaling expels carbon dioxide. The lungs keep the body supplied with the oxygen necessary to keep cells alive. The lung on the right side of the body contains 3 lobes (sections) and is slightly larger than the lung on the left side of the body, which has 2 lobes.

Clear, easy breathing can be impaired by air pollution, seasonal concerns, bad posture, feelings of stress, smoking, environmental threats, lack of exercise, and other aspects of everyday life. Essential oils can help promote feelings of clear airways and ease respiratory discomfort so that you and your family can breathe easy year round.

Research has suggested that essential oils with chemical constituents including d-limonene, 1,8-cineole, and alpha-pinene can help support respiratory health as part of a healthy lifestyle. These chemical constituents are found in citrus oils, Peppermint, Cardamom, and several other doTERRA oils. Taken internally, Cardamom has profound effects on the respiratory system. Add a drop each of Cardamom and Lemon to a glass of water to assist with seasonal respiratory discomfort. Apply Eucalyptus or Douglas Fir to the chest to promote feelings of clear breathing. You can also diffuse these oils for their refreshing and uplifting aroma.
